Hall & Oates Issue Statement On The Death Of Tom “T-Bone” Wolk

Daryl Hall and John Oates have just issued a statement on the death of their friend and long-time musical cohort, bassist/multi-instrumentalist Tom “T-Bone” Wolk, who died over the weekend of a heart attack.

Daryl Hall: To say that I am shocked is the ultimate understatement. T-Bone was my musical brother and losing him is like losing my right hand. It’s not if I will go on, but how. T-Bone was one of the most sensitive and good human beings that I have ever known. And, I can truly say that I loved him.

John Oates: His character was pure and his unique and quirky personality touched everyone he encountered. His musical sensibility was peerless, any instrument that he touched resonated with a sensitivity and skill level that I have never experienced while playing with any other musician. He possessed an encyclopedic knowledge of styles and musical history which he referenced to support all the artists that he played with over the years. He became our band’s musical director over time leading by example and by the deference and respect that everyone who played alongside him so rightfully accorded him. He made everyone he played with better. So many times when I’m working on a musical passage or part, I think to myself: “How would T-Bone play this” and aspire to his level every time I perform. To this day I always keep one of his “I Love Vermont” guitar picks with me where ever I go and know in my heart that starting today the Heavenly Band just got one of the greatest multi-instrumentalist of all time and that band will from this day forward sound better than they ever have before.

Daryl Hall and John Oates are getting ready to head out on a US tour that sticks close to the East Coast through mid-April.

The duo is set to kick things off Feb. 20 in Boca Raton, FL, and play a dozen cities, including Orlando, Baltimore, Boston, Atlantic City and Biloxi, MS. Two-night stands are booked in New York City and Lake Charles, LA. Details are listed below.

Oates also has a couple of solo dates on the calendar to support his sophomore solo effort, "1000 Miles of Life," which surfaced in September. Those shows can be found at Hall & Oates [ tickets ]' website.

Last November, the blue-eyed soul duo released "Live at the Troubadour," a CD/DVD package that captures Hall & Oates' May 2008 return to the legendary Los Angeles venue. The two-night engagement marked the first time the performers had taken the Troubadour stage in 35 years.

"John and I have a lot of great memories associated with performing at the Troubadour, since it was our first show in LA," Hall explained in a statement. "It's like going back to where it all began for us. We've always had an enthusiastic following in Los Angeles, and this is a chance for our fans to see us up close and personal in an intimate setting."

Hall & Oates' most recent studio release is 2006's "Home for Christmas," which features a host of holiday classics alongside a couple of originals. They offered up their latest set of non-holiday music with 2004's "Our Kind of Soul," comprising 14 classic soul covers and three originals.

Hall has also been busy with "Live From Daryl's House," a monthly Internet concert featuring him playing alongside special guests. This month's webcast with The Bacon Brothers (Kevin and Michael) debuted last weekend and is streaming at the Daryl's House website, where fans can also watch archived episodes.

During a career that spans four decades, Hall & Oates have sold more than 60 million albums and scored eight No. 1 singles, many times appearing simultaneously on adult contemporary and R&B charts. In 1987, the RIAA recognized the performers as the No. 1 selling duo in music history, a record they still hold today, according to a press release.

Last spring, Hall & Oates was honored with the BMI Icon Award in recognition of their "unique and indelible influence on generations of music makers." They were also recently honored by Billboard as the No. 15 most successful Hot 100 chart artist from the past 50 years.

Daryl Hall Lets His Hair Down at SXSW
The veteran singer plays Hall & Oates and solo material

A jovial, relaxed Daryl Hall performed lively a set at tonight (March 12) spanning the more than three decades of his career.

In addition to his own solo material, Hall played several classic Hall & Oates tunes including 'Sara Smile' and a reggae version of 'Maneater', which is the way he said his songwriting partner John Oates had originally intended the song to be played.

"It's nice to be here in Austin - it's been way too long," he told the sizeable crowd that had convened to hear him play at the Lone Star Lounge inside the Austin Convention Center.

Hall, who was backed by a full band, also performed his solo song 'Cab Driver', which he told the crowd came to him while waiting for a cab near his second home in London.

Making himself at home on the stage, he quipped, "It's my house and I can do whatever the fuck I want."
